Bifold Doors Case Study: Using Sheer Curtains for Privacy, Light Reduction and Style

Bifold doors are a popular architectural feature, offering expansive views and seamless indoor–outdoor living. However, their size and design can make finding the right window dressing a challenge. In this case study, we explore how sheer curtains created a stylish solution for bifold doors, delivering privacy, soft light control, and a cosy finish.

Consultation

The consultation stage focused on understanding how the client used their space day to day. While the bifold doors allowed plenty of natural light, the homeowner wanted a solution that would provide privacy without blocking light or detracting from the open feel of the room.

Sheer curtains were recommended as the ideal option. Unlike heavier window furnishings, sheers gently diffuse sunlight while maintaining brightness and visibility. A single, right hand side stacked, curtain was suggested to most efficiently utilise space. During the consultation process, fabric samples were sent and discussed to ensure the curtains complemented the existing interior.

Key considerations included:

  • Maintaining easy operation of the bifold windows
  • Preserving views while reducing glare
  • Creating a softer, more inviting atmosphere

Installation

Once the design was finalised, the installation process was straightforward and efficient. A discreet track was installed by the customer above the bifold windows, allowing the sheer curtains to glide smoothly across the full span when needed.

The lightweight nature of the sheer fabric made it ideal for larger window areas, ensuring the curtains hung beautifully without overpowering the space. With the help of our designers, our client felt confident to measure the windows resulting in the curtains sitting perfectly when open or closed.

Result

The finished result was a stunning transformation of the bifold door area. The sheer curtains softened the architectural lines of the windows while adding warmth and texture to the room.
