Luxury Sash Window Curtains

Sash window curtains have been part of British homes for centuries, and they still deserve to be made with care. Our handmade curtains are blackout lined and interlined, and stitched to complement original frames with softness and structure, from elegant Georgian bays to cosy Victorian bedrooms.

If you're looking for a way to preserve character while adding warmth and privacy, we’ll help you get the fit just right for your period home. Because your windows deserve more than off-the-shelf solutions.

30 Years of Making Curtains the Right Way

Our story started over 30 years ago with Sarah’s commitment to better curtain-making. Today, we still hand-sew every piece using her methods, stitching each fold, hemming each edge, and respecting the architecture it's dressing.

We only use OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 fabrics, PFAS free, REACH compliant and often made with recycled or sustainable yarns. Every curtain is blackout lined and interlined by default.

FAQs

How to dress a sash window?

Start by choosing curtains that respect the window’s shape. Sash windows normally feature in rooms with tall ceilings, so you can accentuate the natural height by choosing a design that’s installed on the wall space above the windowframe and which runs to the floor. Having curtains wide enough that they stack clear of the window when open helps to make sure your sash window remains a beautiful design focus.

What are the best curtains for sash windows?

Sash windows suit classic designs like our Merlin’s Beard or Lazy Sunday curtains.  Blackout lining and interlining will give the curtains weight and structure. They should fall neatly without catching on the window locks or handles. We offer size bands that work with classic sash proportions, and our team can help with style, heading and fabric choices.

Can I hang curtains inside a sash window frame?

Yes, as long as the frame has enough depth to avoid interfering with the sash movement. Many people prefer hanging above the frame instead, to show off the architecture and keep the window mechanisms accessible.

Are these curtains made to measure?

Yes, they’re made to measure. Our range of curtains come in 5cm and 10cm size bands to suit traditional sash windows, but they’re made to order, stitched by hand, and interlined as standard. If you can’t find the size you need, or you have unusually shaped frames, then we also offer a fully bespoke service.

How do I measure for sash window curtains?

Follow our curtain measuring guide or send us a photo. We’ll guide you through where to measure and help you choose a fit that balances the window and space around it.
